Oat and Buckwheat Muesli Posted By: admin Posted In: nutrition Date Posted: July 19th, 2012 Comments: skd187508sdc

Ingredients:

1 ½ cups rolled oats (not instant oatmeal)

½ cup puffed buckwheat

1 cup organic pears, diced

1 banana

1 cup red grapes, halved

½ cup dried apples, chopped

3 tbsp brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Milk, almond milk, or rice milk to serve

Prep:

Preheat oven to 325°F. Spread oats evenly in a non-stick baking tray and bake in oven for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Watch oats very closely while they bake as they can burn easily if overly cooked. Remove from oven and cool completely.  Pour oats into a large ceramic or glass bowl and add water (make sure all oats are covered in water). Let soak in the refrigerator overnight.  Add puffed buckwheat, dried apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar to soaked oats. Stir well. Divide mixture into serving bowls and top with pears, bananas, and grapes. Serve with your milk of choice. Enjoy!

Benefits:

Rolled oats are one of the best foods you can eat. High in fiber, calcium, protein, manganese, copper, and Vitamin E to name a few, this is one of the best foods that will make you healthier from the inside out. It will help you digest food much more easily and will help remove toxins from your body more quickly. This faster digestion will alleviate toxins from weighing down your body, give you more energy, and make your skin look better in the process! Rolled oats are also great when added to topical treatments, including being used as an exfoliant on your skin. Check out our Homemade Facials section to read about some awesome homemade facials!

Buckwheat is a great whole grain to add to your regular diet and is rich in the antioxidant, Rutin, and also in Vitamin B. Rutin will help ease inflamed, red, and blotchy skin while Vitamin B will help your skin become more hydrated as opposed to dry and flakey (which can make you more oily since your skin needs a certain level of hydration and may over produce oil causing you to break out).

Bananas are rich in potassium and Vitamin C and will improve your skin texture and assist in making your skin clear and stay that way!  Pears, grapes, and apples all have amazing nutrients as well that will help your skin look better from the inside out. Remember, you are what you eat so listen to your elders advice from when you were little: “Eat plenty of fruits and veggies to keep you looking and feeling healthy!”
